By default, the shortcut icons shown on the desktop in Windows Vista have an arrow overlay over them. If you do not like this arrow, you can follow a workaround to disable it. Here is how to disable this arrow :
- Download disable_arrow_vista.zip
- Extract the contents of the zip archive to a folder.
- Right click on disable_shortcut_arrow.cmd and select Run as administrator.
- Now you can restart your computer for the changes to take effect. After restart, the arrows on desktop shortcut icons will disappear.
If you later want to undo the changes and enable the arrows again, then right-click on enable_shortcut_arrow.cmd and select Run as administrator.
