F-Secure Health Check is a free application from F-Secure Corporation (the makers of F-Secure Internet Security), that tells you if your computer is protected and helps you fix possible security issues. It can tell you if your firewall, antivirus, and anti-spyware software is on and up-to-date. It can also tell whether your photographs, text documents, and other irreplaceable files are automatically backed up. It will also give details as to whether there are security updates available for the most widely used programs on your computer (such as the operating system, web browsers and media players).
Point your web browser to http://www.f-secure.com/en_EMEA-Labs/security-threats/tools/health-check/ in order to run the F-Secure Health Check program. The program is written in Java language so you should have it installed before you can use the F-Secure Health Check. You can always visit http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp to download and install Java on your computer. This is supported on Windows XP, Vista and 7 only. Latest versions of most of the browsers like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome are supported.
Select a language from the drop-down listbox. Plece a checkmark in the checkbox – showing that you accept the terms of the license. Then click on the Run Check button to continue.
You will be prompted for confirmation as to whether you want to run this application. Click on the button labeled Run to give permission and run this application.
The F-Secure Health Check program window would open in a separate window and starts scanning your system for problems. After some minutes it would show you the results. You can see the results in the Security, Backup, Critical Software categories. The Security section gives you information about anti-virus, anti-malware and firewall products. The Backup sections tells you if you have a backup solution. The Critical Software section tells you if your critical software (like web browsers and Windows itself) is up-to-date. It also recommends the solutions to found problems in the Solution tab.
If you click on the Solve button to solve the found problem with a recommended solution, it will only take you to the F-Secure store so you can buy their products. Even though all the solutions are pointing to the F-Secure online store, yet this F-Secure Health Check tool can help you a lot in protecting your system and keeping it up-to-date.
