DreamMail : A Full Featured Free Email Client

With the recent declaration of discontinuing the development of the popular Mozilla Thunderbird email client by Mozilla, every Thunderbird user is looking for an alternative email client. This is specially true for Microsoft Windows users as free Microsoft email products are not so robust and feature rich. If you are also looking for an alternative email client, then you can try free DreamMail. It is a professional email client that supports multiple users and multiple email accounts. It was originally developed in China but now it has fans all over the world from Japan to Europe.

Here are some of the features of the DreamMail email client :

  • Supports multiple email accounts and multiple users.
  • Supports various protocols like POP3, SMTP, ESMTP etc. It does not support IMAP.
  • Has inbuilt spam filter to automatically detect spam messages.
  • Includes many templates and backgrounds to be used in your email messages.
  • Supports both HTML and TEXT email messages.

You can download the DreamMail email client from one of its various sites (apart from its Chinese site, it also has a Japanese and European site). After installation, you can run it either from the Start Menu or the Desktop shortcut. When started for the first time, it would ask you for creating a user account. You can create multiple user accounts. Each user would be able to use DreamMail with their own multiple email accounts (just like in Windows, multiple users can use Windows by logging on to their individual accounts). If you do not want to go into the complexity of multiple users, then just select the default user account.

After creating your user account, you can start adding email accounts to your user account. For the first time you start DreamMail, it would ask you automatically to add a new email account. Just type in your email address, password and name and you are ready to go. As previously mentioned the IMAP protocol is not supported. DreamMail only supports the POP3 protocol. So you cannot reap the benefits that come with the IMAP protocol. But you can still use it with your Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo!(paid) accounts. After adding the email account, as you click on the Finish button, it starts the email client window with your inbox opened. Your email account folders are shown on the left. In the middle is the list of all the email messages. On the right side is a preview of the currently selected email message. The virtual folder displays all the messages from all of your email accounts.

You can right click on this system tray icon to carry out various actions like sending a previously composed message or compose a new message. The composition window has a very nice editor and allows you insert pictures, emoticons, pictures, audio, tables and more. You can even record your voice and attach it to your email message.
