Cloud storage has taken us all by the storm. Today, there are multiple cloud storage services available and most of them provide some free storage space for starters. MiMedia is a new cloud storage service that provides 7 gigabytes of free storage space for your various needs. For now, it provides clients for Windows, iPhone and iPad only but they claim to come up with a Mac client in the near future. In addition to the desktop and mobile clients, MiMedia storage can also be accessed using their web interface.
You can visit the MiMedia website and sign up for a new account. All you have to do is supply your first name, last name and an email address and you would be subscribed for the free 7 GB starter pack. Then you can download the Windows desktop client (or mobile clients for iPhone or iPad) and install it. The Windows desktop client is supported on Windows XP, Vista and 7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit editions). The installation requires you to have .NET framework 3.5 installed. After the installation, the desktop client would ask you for login credentials (that you created when signing up on the MiMedia website). Just plug-in your email address and password to login to your MiMedia account. Next MiMedia client would ask you which disk drives or folders you would like to backup on the cloud storage. You have to add atleast one folder to continue to the next step. You can add or remove more folders later if you want. At the end of this setup, MiMedia would start to backup your selected folders or drives on the cloud.
MiMedia also creates a cloud drive with drive letter M: on your computer. This cloud drive is automatically synced to your MiMedia cloud storage account. This cloud drive appears just like any other drive and you can use it like any other disk. You can copy, delete, create any documents in this cloud drive and all the contents will be automatically reflected in your MiMedia cloud account which you can access from any web browser or any other device that is supported by MiMedia.
Apart from the desktop clients for Windows (also for Mac in near future) and mobile apps for iPhone, you can also access your MiMedia cloud storage from any web browser. This way you can access your account universally from just any computer. Just visit the MiMedia website and login to your account. It would show your storage files arranged in the categories like music, photos, videos and other files. You can also your backed up files under the backups category. The web interface for MiMedia can also play your videos and songs right in your web browser. You can also share your files by emailing the link to your friends, posting them to social networks or uploading the selected items (photos and videos) to your facebook account.
Although MiMedia does not store your files in the encrypted format like many other cloud services, but the uploading of your files is done on an encrypted SSL connection. MiMedia provides a very simple web interface to view, share, play (songs and videos) and download your backed up files from the cloud storage.
