When a computer gets infected with malware, you usually ask the malware removal experts to detect and remove the threats from your PC. Earlier the experts used a tool called HijackThis to analyze your infected system and find out where the malware has hidden its entries and files. But now experts believe that this tool has become old and now they use many different tools like ESET SysInspector and DDS. ESET SysInspector is a system analysis tool for malware infected systems, that can help experts and advanced users detect, diagnose and remove any malware threats or remnants of malware in your computer.
You can download ESET SysInspector from the ESET site. The download is a portable application and does not require to be installed. The download is available for both the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows. As you execute the downloaded file, it starts to scan your system for critical files, running processes, registry keys, DNS servers and more. At the end of the scan, you are presented with a detailed categorized view of the results. You can click on the categories, sub-categories and entries to have a look about them. This way an expert and advanced user can easily highlight the possible sign of a malware.
The program is extremely flexible and you do not have to dig through each and every entry in the generated report (like in HijackThis). You can adjust to view the risk level of the entries from the top-left slider control. If you keep the slider towards the green end, the entries are not so risky. If you drag the slider towards the red end, the entries become riskier. You can filter the entries on the basis of risk level from the menubar too. Just select the File → Item Filtering from the menubar and select a risk level. The risk levels are numbered from 1 to 9.
If you want to save the report log to send it to a malware removal expert as well, so they can analyze your system and suggest a possible solution. To save the log, select File → Save Log from the menubar. You might want to re-generate the report suitable for sending using File → Generate → Suitable for Sending in the menubar. The report generated this way does not contain any private information.
ESET SysInspector is a diagnostic tool for virus infected computer systems. It is not an antivirus or malware removal tool. But it can help you identify what kind of malware is infesting your system and seek further help from malware removal experts.
