Change Start Screen Background in Windows 8

When you power on your Windows 8 PC, you are taken to the start screen (previously called metro screen). This start screen has all the tiles with links to launch Windows 8 apps. For example, you can click on the Internet Explorer tile to launch the Windows 8 app for Internet Explorer and so on. By default, the start screen has a purple colored background image. But if you want, then you can change the start screen background image along with the background color. You can follow the following steps to change the start screen background picture:

  1. Press the key combination Windows logo key + I to display the Charms bar in the right side of your screen. In the charms bar, click on Change PC Settings which is displayed at the very bottom of the charms bar.

  2. In the PC Settings screen that opens up, select Personalize on the left side. Then click on Start screen near the top-right corner of your screen. Windows 8 comes with many background images for the start screen. You can select one of these images by clicking on their thumbnails. You can also select a background color by clicking on a desired color in the color selector bar. You would notice that the background image color changes as you select a color from the color bar.

  3. That’s it. Now you can close the PC Settings screen and check how your start screen looks with the new background image and color.
