Grammarly Lite : Free Spellcheck and Dictionary for Web Browsers

Software like Microsoft Word has spoiled us all when it comes to typing. The auto-correction feature of Microsoft Word corrects all our typing mistakes automatically. But when it comes to typing in facebook, web mail services like Gmail or twitter, we make mistakes so often. But if you are a Chrome, Firefox or Safari user, then you can install the Grammarly Lite extension and have your typings checked for spelling as well as grammatical mistakes. Additionally, it offers definition lookups for all the words on any webpage.

You can download and install the Grammarly Lite extension from the Grammarly site. After the installation is done, you are protected from making any of the spelling and grammar mistakes when you type. You can now start typing in webmails, forums, facebook, twitter or anywhere else. You would see a green G icon in the lower-right corner of the textfield – indicating that you are protected with Grammarly on that site. If you make a spelling mistake, then this green G icon changes into red colroed G icon. The misspelled words are underlined with a wavy red line (just like in the Microsoft Word). As you hover your mouse cursor over these misspelled words, you are shown a list of possible correct spellings from which you can choose the one that you think is correct.

Similarly, if you make some basic grammar mistakes, like forgetting an obvious article (a, an or the) before a word, then the red wavy underline appears in the errorneous section of the text. If you hover your mouse cursor over these red underlines, you are shown a list of possible corrections. Grammarly Lite supports only three types of grammar corrections – article mistakes, punctuation and captialization errors.

You can double-click on any word on any website to see its definition. In the following snapshot, I double-clicked on the word Obama and it showed information about the 44th president of the United States.
