Usually your scanner does not create a big multi-page PDF file for all of your scanned documents. It rather creates a single PDF file for each of the scanned documents. So at the end of scanning of a dozen of documents, you are left with a dozen of PDF files. If you want to join all these PDF files into a single PDF file, then you can make use of the free Hexonic PDF Split and Merge utility.
You can download the Hexonic PDF Split and Merge utility from the Hexonic software website. The download is available in form of an installer. After the installation, you can run it from its desktop shortcut if it does not run automatically by itself. The user interface allows you to add PDF or image files that you can split or merge. You can drag and drop the PDF or image files on the Hexonic PDF Split and Merge window in order to add them.
Once a PDF file has been added, you can select the range of pages that you want to extract from it. You can choose the layout from a single page, 2 pages on one PDF page or a custom number of pages on a single PDF page. If you want to split the pages from the added PDF files, then you have to select the option Store each page in a separate file. If you do not select this option, then all the added files would be merged together into a single PDF file.
Hexonic PDF Split and Merge utility allows you to add an image as a watermark. You should select a PNG image file because they have transparent areas and work great as background watermark images. You can also set page footer to the resulting PDF files. Adding a footer is a nice idea if you want to put the page number in case of merging several files into a single PDF file.
After this you can click on the Preview button to have a preview of the resulting PDF files. If you are satisfied with the results, then you can click on the Start processing button to create the finalized PDF files.
Hexonic PDF Split and Merge utility lets you add both image or PDF files and create PDF files from them. It works in all versions of Windows starting from Windows XP to Windows 8.
