Comodo Cloud Scanner is a cloud based scanner for detecting malware, junk files and obsolete registry entries in your PC. However, it does not resolve any found issues. You have to either do it yourself or consult an expert through the Comodo GeekBuddy link. It works on all versions of Windows starting from Windows XP and is a completely free product. Here are some of the features of Comodo Cloud Scanner:
- Detects malware and suspicious files
- Discovers privacy issues & identity traces
- Reveals corrupt, unwanted and invalid registry entries
- Identifies all types of junk files on your disk
- Detects hidden processes running on your computer
You can download Comodo Cloud Scanner from the Comodo website. The download is a setup file of around 20 MB in file size that can be used to install Cloud Scanner in Windows. After the installation, it does not tell you to reboot your PC, but I advise that you reboot your PC. Without rebooting, the right-click context-menu extension for scanning files/folders does not work. You can run Comodo Cloud Scanner from its desktop shortcut or through the Start Menu shortcut. You must be connected to the Internet, or Comodo Cloud Scanner will refuse to detect any malicious files on your PC. You have to click on the Scan My Computer to start scanning your system.
The scanning works very fast and in a matter of seconds it detects hundreds of junk files, malware and obsolete registry entries. On my test system, it successfully detected two malware files that I had deliberately planted. It detected more than 500 privacy issues, which mainly consist of the history of files opened, MRU history present in the Windows registry and the web browser history etc.
You can click on the Details button to view the list of items it has detected under a category. But that’s all. You cannot clean, delete or repair any issues found by Comodo Cloud Scanner. All you can do is click on the Help me clean my PC button and connect to one of the Comodo’s GeekBuddy technicians. It is not clear whether they are going to charge you for helping you clean your PC.
Apart from scanning your PC from the main Comodo Cloud Scanner interface, you can also scan specific files or folders for malware. The difference is that when you scan from the main interface, it scans only for running malware programs; but from the right-click context-menu, you can scan just about any file or folder for malware. To do this, you can right-click on a file/folder and select Scan with Comodo Cloud Scanner to start scanning the contents of that folder or the selected file with Comodo Cloud Scanner.
Comodo Cloud Scanner is a nice little tool that can be used to scan your system for possible infection by malware. It can also find the obsolete entries in the Windows registry and junk files on your PC. It uses cloud technology and scans very fast. But unfortunately, it does not resolve any issue found on your PC, but instead offers you help through their trained PC technicians.
