Windows has an Automatic Update feature which keeps your system up-to-date by downloading latest updates or patches from the Microsoft website and installing them automatically in the background. This is very useful feature for keeping your computer protected against known vulnerabilities as the updates often patch the known security risks in the Windows operating system. But sometimes Windows Updates feature fails to work due to many different problems, for example registry permissions, file corruptions and wrong configuration etc. If your Windows 8 PC is not able to automatically update using the Windows Automatic Update feature, then you can follow these simple instructions to fix the problems:
- Press the hotkey Win+X to open the administrator menu. From this administrator menu, select Command Prompt (Admin) and it would start an elevated command prompt.
- In the Administrator Command Prompt, type the following commands in the given order and pressing Enter key after each line:
- After the DISM (Deployment Imaging and Servicing Management) tool finishes up fixing any possible Windows problems, you can close the command prompt window and try updating windows. If the Windows Update fails, then you may have to restart your PC before trying Windows Update again.
