Are you having a hard time remembering usernames and passwords for hundreds of websites, apps, email services and social networks? You tried to write them down on a piece of paper and now that paper is lost? Well, you need to keep up with the times and use the free F-Secure Key to store your credentials online so that you can access them anytime, anywhere and through any device. F-Secure Key is a password management app for iPhone & Android and it also comes as a Windows & Mac application. It stores your passwords on servers located inside the European Union which means that there is a probability that organisations like NSA will not be able to access them.
You can get F-Secure Key app or PC application from the F-Secure website. For Android or iPhone it takes to the Google Play or Apple App Store sites, respectively. For the desktop computers, the download is available in a standard MSI or DMG packages. In Windows, you can download the MSI package and install it on your system. Immediately after installation, you are shown a window where you can create a new F-Secure Key account. The user interface of the PC application mimics that of the app for mobile devices.
You would notice a strange thing – the account creation takes only a password and not the username. But this is because F-Secure Key identifies the device it is working on and takes your device as a type of user ID. If you try to login from a different unconnected device using the same password, then it will not work. But you can always connect a device by clicking on the menu icon and then choosing Connect devices which requires you to enter a synchronization code generated on this device on another device that you want to connect.
If you want to add new credentials, then you can click on the plus icon in the main interface of F-Secure Key and then manually enter all the details. You have to enter the description, URL, username and password. There is also a password generation feature that can generate strong passwords up to 32 characters in length.
After adding the credentials, you can access them from any connected device after entering the master password. It can enter your password automatically in any password field on any website. To enter the password automatically, all you have to do is click on the password field on a website, click on the F-Secure Key icon and select one of the credentials from the list. This will automatically fill the password field from that credentials set. But you will have to type in the username yourself. For security reasons, this works only when you have logged into your F-Secure Key application with your master password. I you have not logged into your F-Secure Key account, then you will not see any F-Secure Key icon in the password fields on any website.
When you add the credentials for any online service or website, they are not stored locally on your computer, but get stored on the F-Secure servers located inside the EU region. These credentials can only be accessed from your connected devices only after entering the master password. This makes F-Secure Key very highly secure password management utility.
