If you are a Yahoo! webmail user and want to send a new email message to someone, then first of all you have to open a web browser, then type www.yahoo.com in the address bar, switch to Yahoo! Mail site and then pull menus in the Yahoo! Mail site to finally start composing the new message. All these steps are required to just compose a new email message, which makes the whole experience very annoying. If you want to quickly open the “compose new message” page, then you can create a desktop shortcut in Windows. This way you can just double-click on the desktop shortcut to quickly open the Yahoo! Mail new email message compose page.
You can follow these steps to create a Yahoo! Mail compose new message shortcut in Windows:
- First of all download any Yahoo! icon from www.iconarchive.com and save in any folder on your hard disk. I have saved the icon file in C:\Downloads folder, but you can use just any folder of your choice.
- Create a text file on your desktop and copy/paste the following content in it.
[InternetShortcut]
URL=http://compose.mail.yahoo.com/
IconFile=C:\Downloads\Danleech-Simple-Yahoo.ico
IconIndex=0Of course, you have to change the folder path and name of the icon to match your own icon file that you downloaded in the step 1. Save the file.
- Rename the text file that you created in the step 2 to Yahoo Mail.url (the extension of the file should be change from .TXT to .URL).
- That’s it, you have created a new shortcut to Yahoo! Mail “compose new email message” page on your computer. Now if you double-click on this newly created shortcut and start composing new email messages right away.
