Get Earthquake Alerts on Android Smartphone

Last month a disastrous earthquake hit the peaceful country of Nepal, otherwise known as a popular tourist destination. The massive quake caused many ancients buildings to collapse and more than 6,000 people have lost their lives so far. When such a big earthquake hits a city, it is essential to know about it as quickly as possible so that rescue missions can be started and you can also volunteer to help the people caught up in the rubble of the collapsed buildings. Fortunately, it has become very easy to know about all the earthquakes in your region using a simple app LastQuake on your Android phone.

After the installation of the LastQuake app, you are asked to enter an email address and then you would be able to see all the earthquakes around the world listed in the chronological order. You can touch on any of these quakes in the list to see more details about them. In the details, it shows the location, time, coordinates, magnitude on Richter scale and the epicenter depth for the selected earthquake.

If you have enabled the GPS feature in Android, then LastQuake can automatically determine your geographical location and show you the quakes near your area through the section Near Me. Instead of the list view, you can also choose to view all the quakes on the map of the world. Stronger quakes are shown with yellow, orange, and red circles while weaker ones are indicated with blue or green colors.

The default settings for the LastQuake app allow you to receive the notifications for two types of quakes – destructive earthquakes (like the one that hit Nepal on 25th April, 2015) and the earthquakes that originate near your location (your location is determined through the GPS feature in Android). But you can enable or disable this setting in LastQuake to receive the selective notifications.
