Disk Drill is a popular file recovery software for Mac OS. Recently a Windows version of Disk Drill has also been released. The Windows version of this software has the exact same capabilities as the Mac version and is able to recover deleted files from all of your partitions. It can recognize many different types of partitions commonly used by Windows, Mac and Linux, for example, EXT4, EXT3, FAT, FAT32, NTFS, HFS+ etc. Disk Drill also offers a file protection service for Windows users which keeps a record of the deleted files and can be used to recover the deleted files easily.
Disk Drill requires you to install it on your Windows PC and does not offer any portable version. During the installation, some of the deleted files could be overwritten and their recovery can become very difficult. For this reason, you should install it on a different PC and then attach the target disks from which files are to be recovered to that PC.
Disk Drill shows you all the partitions on your system and some general information about them in a nice looking interface. You can choose to recovery files from any of these partitions by clicking on the Recover button. You can also choose quick scan or deep scan by clicking on the down-arrow icon next to the Recover button. From the same interface, you can enable file protection service for any of these partitions.
At the end of the scan, you are shown a list of all the deleted files found on the selected partition. You can sort these files based on the file size or modification date or their type (videos, audios, pictures, documents, archives etc.). You can select one or more of these and choose to restore them back to a folder of your choice.
Disk Drill for Windows offers a comprehensive suite of tools designed to protect your files against accidental deletion as well as the tools for recovering of the already deleted files. It can be used to recover files from all types of memory storage devices – memory cards, hard disks, solid state disks, SD cards, USB flash disks and more.
