Even though Windows 10 is being offered as a free upgrade to the Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 users, it needs to be activated. Without the activation, it will stop working after a few weeks and then you will have to activate it. There are many ways to find out if Windows 10 is activated in your PC. Some of these ways are same as the ones you might have used for the older versions of Windows, while others are brand new for Windows 10.
One of the ages old ways to find out the activation status of Windows is by opening the System Properties window. You can do this by pressing the hotkey Windows logo key + Pause. In the system properties window that opens up, you can see the Windows activation at the very bottom end of the window.
Another new way to check Windows activation status in Windows 10 is as follows:
- Click on the Start button and type activate in the search box.
- From the search results, click or touch on See of Windows is activated displays under the settings category.
- Now you will be shown the settings window with the Activation pre-selected under the Update & Security section. Here you can see Windows edition and whether Windows is activated or not.
If Windows is activated then there is nothing to worry about and you can go on using Windows 10 without any problems. But if Windows 10 is not activated, then you can proceed with activation through the options displayed in the settings window (under the Activation section as shown in the picture above).
