Some of the modern digital cameras automatically save the geographical location inside the picture itself. The benefit of this is that you always know where the picture was taken without having to remember anything or writing down the location somewhere. But for this to work the digital camera must have a GPS sensor so that it can communicate with the artificial satellites hovering in the air around the planet and fetch the accurate location of the camera. As soon as you snap a picture it then saves these location coordinates inside the picture itself using the EXIF data.
However, if you do not have any such advanced camera, then you can use a free web app called GeoImgr that can easily take your pictures and save the appropriate geographical location coordinates inside them. You have to use only the image formats like JPEG that support the EXIF tag data embedding.
You can start by visiting the web app GeoImgr website, and there you can click on the Upload a photo button to select and upload an image. You can also drag-n-drop the images on the web app in a specified spot and they will be automatically uploaded to the GeoImgr servers.
After an image is uploaded, the GeoImgr app will show you if there is already some geographical location embedded inside the image. If there is no such information, you can either enter the information manually, or take the help of the Google map on the side. You can move the push-pin to the location on the map that you desire to save in the picture. After this clicking on the Tag photo button will fill in the coordinates in the appropriate boxes.
Now the only thing you have to do is click on the Download photo button to download the image with the geographical coordinates embedded inside it. You can use any image viewer that can show you the EXIF data embedded inside the images. For example, you can use the free IrfanView image viewer to see the GPS coordinates location inside the images.
