Many people do not know that Windows 10 comes with two main themes for various components. By default, the light theme is enabled in Windows 10. But you can very easily switch to the dark theme in your Windows 10 PC. These themes are not the regular desktop themes that you can download and apply and change the window color or the wallpaper. But instead these two themes affect the way only some components like the Windows Settings look.
We have already posted a method of manually enabling the dark theme in Windows 10 previously in the article – How to Enable the Dark Theme in Windows 10. But if you do not want to perform the manual steps, then we have created a very simple app called Dark Theme Activator for Windows 10 for you.
This small program is a portable and completely standalone application for Windows 10. You must run this application with administrator privileges as it needs to make changes in the Windows Registry. After launching the app (with elevated privileges), you can click on the Enable Dark Theme button to activate the dark theme.
Obviously, you will have to sign out and then sign in once again into your Windows’ user account to see the changes. This is because signing out and signing in forces Windows to reload the Windows’ registry. If you do not like the dark theme and want to switch back to the default light theme in Windows 10, then you can launch the tool once again and this time click on the Enable Light Theme button to activate the light theme.
Once again, you will have to sign out and then sign in once again into your Windows’ user account to see the changes. The tool creates two files enable-dark-theme.reg and disable-dark-theme.reg in the same folder as it is launched from.
You can download the Dark Theme Activator for Windows 10 from https://www.trishtech.com/downloads/dark-theme-activator.zip.
