One of the perks of buying an Android smartphone from a reputed international company like Google, Samsung, Huawei, or Lenovo is that you keep getting the system updates regularly. The same is not true for some smaller companies that sell cheaper phones. The system updates provided by the manufacturer for your Android phone is usually in form of a single large file that is extracted by the phone and then the update is initiated. But if you want to extract different segments from this large update file, then you have to use some special tools like the Huawei Update Extractor that extracts files from the Update.App firmware update file available only for Huawei Android smartphones.
For this, you first have to copy the Update.App file from your phone to your PC. After this, you can launch Huawei Update Extractor and select this file from under the Extract section. After some analysis, it will show you a list of all the files that can be extracted. You can right-click on any of these files and choose to Extract them. You can also convert the update file into a flashable ZIP file that can be flashed using a custom recovery for your Android phone.
For the people who have modified some of the files like recovery.img and system.img and want to include the modified files into the Update.App file, this tool offers a Repack feature. Using this is extremely easy too. You can locate the folder containing the modified files and then choose to repack these files. All the repacked files are put together into a new Update.App file that can be used to update your Huawei phone.
Huawei Update Extractor can be very useful when you do not want to run the system update all over again to fix a smaller problem by flashing just the recovery or the bootloader. You can use this tool to extract the necessary files and flash them using recovery or fastboot.
You can download Huawei Update Extractor from XDA Forums.
