Kaspersky had earlier released a free antivirus for Windows users to provide everyone a free alternative to the Microsoft Defender that comes pre-installed in Windows 10. And now they have come up with a free VPN service for all the Android users called Kaspersky Secure Connection. This new VPN service is actually built upon the technology of Hotspot Shield – a well known name in the field of VPN services.
This new VPN service app is really easy to use and provides you one touch VPN access for all the installed apps. Unlike some other similar apps, it does not enable VPN for all the installed apps. Instead it asks you whether an app should be allowed access to the internet through VPN or if you would rather want that app to access the internet directly.
After the installation of the Kaspersky Secure Connection app is complete, you can launch it and tap on Turn On button to activate the VPN. But how different apps and websites access the VPN is controlled through the rules. You can view, add and change these rules from the Kaspersky Secure Connection settings. You can also choose a different VPN server located in a specific country for different apps. Furthermore, whenever you launch an app (only apps specified in settings), Kasperskty will ask you if you want VPN access or direct access for that app. In the rules, you can also choose website groups (banking, online payment, online shopping etc) to use specific VPN servers.
In the free version, it tries to connect your smartphone to the nearest working VPN server. But if you have paid for the subscription, then you have the options to manually pick a server. Kaspersky Secure Connection offers VPN servers located in eighteen different countries around the world. However, it is recommended that you let it pick a server for you automatically unless you want a VPN server from a particular country.
The free version of VPN service from Kaspersky provides 200 MB free data everyday, that is, around 6 GB per month (if you use it daily). For unlimited data, you have to buy a subscription to the VPN service. The subscription also lets you manually pick any VPN server of your choice.
Verdict: Kaspersky Secure Connection is not just another VPN service for Android users. It is very intelligent and gives you so many options to switch VPN server for various apps, websites and website groups.
