These days hard drives are available in very large storage capacities in the order of 4 TB, 6 TB and 10 TB. When you install an operating system on a brand new hard drive or solid state drive, you have to partition it first. Usually, you assign around 200 GB for the partition on which you want to install Windows or Linux and the rest is used for storing other files like documents, music, videos, backups and so on.
For partitioning your hard drives, you do not have to depend on very large programs that require installation before you can use them. Instead you can use PartMgr which is perhaps the smallest program that provides you with basic partition management tools. The download is less than 2 MB in size and contains programs for both the 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. You have to right-click on the PartMgrX64.exe or PartMgrX32.exe and select Run as administrator from the context-menu in order to use it properly.
It displays a list of all the partitions for the first disk in your computer. You can right-click on any of these partitions and select a number of operations to be performed on them, for example, creating partitions, deleting partitions, changing partition types to MBR or GPT etc. If you want to work on other disks, you can choose Select another disk and pick the disk that you want to work with.
Despite the small file size for the program and all the necessary functions, PartMgr is not recommended for the novice users. This is because the program does not offer any option to rollback the changes like some of the other popular partition manager software do.
Conclusion: PartMgr is the smallest partition manager for Windows with a GUI. Using this portable tool you can create, delete and change partition types in your storage disks easily.
