Padlock : Cross-Platform Open-Source Minimalist Password Manager

Padlock is a cross-platform password manager that comes with a minimalist user interface and very short learning curve. Unlike some other password management software, Padlock is very easy to use and supports almost all the platforms like Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS. Moreover, there is also an extension for the Chrome web browser available.

Padlock is an open-source software and is designed to have a very modern interface. It offers synchronizing your stored passwords across all the devices that you use through a cloud account. Padlock Cloud stores all of your credentials in the cloud securely and you can access it from anywhere and from any device.

The first thing you have to do is set the master password. This master password is going to protect your stored credentials and should be remembered. If you forget this master password, then you will not be able to get back your stored credentials.

After you have setup the master password, you can either import the stored credentials from other applications like the web browsers or you can manually add the credentials. You can click on the add button to start adding a new record that can contain as many fields as you want.

Synchronization is available only after you pair your device with the Padlock cloud service through an email address. In the settings, you can find options to export all of the stored credentials as CSV file or as encrypted file. Similarly, you can import the records through a file or by copying them to clipboard and then pasting  them in Padlock.

Verdict: Padlock is a really easy-to-learn and very secure password manager available. It works on all the major platforms including in the Chrome web browser. But it has no extension for Firefox browser and forces you to use Padlock’s own cloud service.
