With powerful digital cameras now available on even the cheaper smartphones, everyone has turned into a photographer. With people snapping so many pictures everyday, you may find yourself storing the same pictures on your storage devices in different folders due to forgetfulness. When this happens, you may end up having hundreds of duplicate high-resolution pictures stored on your hard drives or other storage devices. If you want to find and remove the duplicate images, then AntiDupl is the software you will need.
AntiDupl is an open-source software – it needs .NET framework installed in your Windows PC, but otherwise does not need any installation of the program itself. It can look for many different types of image files such as JPEG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, PNG, EMF, WMF, EXIF, ICON, JP2, PSD, DDS and TGA. It does not compare the file hashes, but compares the images file using their picture content which means that it can find not only 100% identical images, but also images that have a similarity of more than 85%.
Using AntiDupl is very easy. You have to select one or more source folders that contain your image files that you want to compare. Typically, you will click on the Open button in the toolbar and select two or more folders to compare the images they contain. After this is done, you can click on the Start Search button (green colored play button) and it will find the duplicates. Now you can select a duplicate group and choose various actions such as – delete all but one picture from the group (you can select which of the pictures to be deleted, e.g., first, second, third…), replace the pictures, rename pictures or delete them all. After AntiDupl has finished processing the selected action and deleting the duplicates, you will be notified of the free space that you have gained on the storage device.
Conclusion: AntiDupl is an easy and productive software for finding and processing the duplicate images. It is really useful for the photography professionals and enthusiasts.
