Apple is now using a new image file format HEIC or HEIF for saving the pictures captured by iPhone camera. This new image format HEIC is able to compress picture data more than the JPEG image format. According to MPEG group, the developers behind the HEIC format, this new format can store twice the data stored in a typical JPEG image. Apple has adopted this new image file format so that you can keep taking high resolution pictures without worrying about the storage space on your new iPhone.
But since HEIC image format is pretty new, it is not nativey supported by any operating system like Windows, Linux or even macOS. In order to work with the HEIC images capture through iPhone, you have to first convert them into other standard image formats such as JPEG or PNG.
You can use iMazing HEIC Converter to easily convert your HEIC images into JPEG or PNG format. This simple tool is completely free and works on Windows and Mac. After launching this tiny tool, you can simply drag-n-drop all the HEIC image files on its window to add them to the conversion list. You can also use the menubar to add files or folders containing the HEIC images.
From the conversion options, you can choose the target image file format from JPEG or PNG. For the JPEG format, you can decide the quality which is preset at 95%. You can also choose to keep any EXIF metadata embedded inside the source HEIC images.
Once you click on the Convert button, it will quickly start the conversion. It takes only a few seconds before it displays the information box that all of your HEIC files are converted. You can now click on Show Files to open the folder of the converted image files and view them in any regular image viewer like IrfanView.
