Trend Micro Check is a new service from the security firm Trend Micro. It is designed to fight the newer security threats that have become prevalent in the last few years – scams, phishing, fake news, disinformation, rumors, fake images, fake news sites, hack data dumps and more. Trend Micro Check is available in three formats – as a Chrome browser extension, on WhatsApp and on Facebook Messenger.
You can install the Chrome browser extension of Trend Micro Check and it will provide you multi-layered protection as you visit various websites. As you visit a website, it will display a green icon in the omnibar to indicate that the website is safe. On the other hand a red icon will indicate that website is not safe.
When you search for something on a search engine and the links of websites are displayed, you can right-click on any of these links and select Trend Micro Check to have that link checked for malicious behavior. You can do the same for URLs displayed on any other site. This way you can find out whether those links are safe to visit before visiting them.
When you see a news article and you want to know whether that news article is real or fake, you can just select the news headline or title and then click on the Trend Micro Check icon. It will scan the news article and find out whether the news is fake or not. Sometimes, it cannot find anything about the news article.
Even more options are available when you connect with Trend Micro Check over WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger. On these platforms, Trend Micro Check is available in form of a bot. You can ask questions and receive intelligent answers. You can copy-paste email address and it will find whether that email address has been a part of data breach mega dumps. You can copy-paste an image to find out whether it is a fake image. You can copy-paste text or URLs and find more information about them.
