Shutter Encoder : FFmpeg Based Media Converter Software

Shutter Encoder is a popular video encoding and conversion application. It works on Windows, Linux and macOS. It offers a large number of functions including the conversion, extraction, merging, video subtitling, DVD ripping, DVD burning and more.

It is designed using Oracle Java and requires JRE to be installed on your system. It is available in the installer format and also as a portable program. If you download the portable version, then the package comes with a version JRE included.

The user interface of Shutter Encoder is a small window in which all the features are available. You have to start by adding the source media files whether they are images, audio files or video files. After that we can select a function that we want to run on those files.

Among the functions, we have no-conversion functions (Cut without re-encoding, Replace audio, Rewrap, Conform, Merge, Extract, Subtitling, Video inserts), sound conversions, editing codecs, output codecs, broadcast codecs, old codecs, archiving codecs, image creation, burn and rip (DVD, Blu-ray, DVD RIP), analysis, and downloading of videos.

As soon as you select a function, more features become available and the window becomes enlarged. Depending on the function that you are going to select, we have access to many more features. For example, if you select JPEG function, features such as watermark, rotation, crop, color management become available on the right side of the Shutter Encoder.

For all the functions, that you have selected, you have to click on the Start Function button to run it. Based on the options and features selected, it works on your selected media files and places the output in the destination directory.

Shutter Encoder leverages another open-source media encoding software called FFmpeg which means that it supports almost all media types available. FFmpeg also makes the media processing really very fast.
