How to Change Default Apps in Windows 10 to Microsoft Apps

Once we buy a brand new Windows 10 PC, we start installing many different programs and apps on it. For the same task, there are so many programs available on the internet. For example, there are at least half a dozen mainstream web browsers available for Windows 10. If we try any of them, they all ask to be set as the default web browser.

Within a month of getting a new Windows 10 laptop, we end up with many third-party software setup as the default programs as web browser, music player, video player, image viewer, email client and so on. Fortunately, it is very easy to change the default apps in Windows 10 back to the Microsoft recommended apps. Here is how:

  1. Click on the Start button and click on the cogwheel icon. This will open Windows setting. Alternatively, you can also use the keyboard shortcut Win+I for opening the settings.
  2. In the Windows settings, first select Apps and then Default Apps category. It will display all the default apps associated with your system.
  3. Scroll down and click on the Reset button to reset all the app associations back to the recommended Microsoft apps. The process is really fast and completed in just a few seconds.Reset Windows Default Apps

When you click on the Reset button, it does not show any confirmation window. It just quickly changes the apps associations. So you should be very careful when clicking on this button as it doesn’t give any chance to change your mind.

If you do not want to change all the apps associations back to the default Microsoft recommended ones and want to change only one of the apps (such as the music player) then that is also possible. For this, we have to click on that app and then choose the recommended app from the list. This will change the default app only for that type of program.
