VideoLAN Media Player is the most popular software when it comes to playing videos and audio files. It works on many platforms like Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. The main reason why so many people love VLC player is because of its in-built support for hundreds of media file formats. We can also play network streams and all type of discs using VLC player.
Even though VLC media player is installed on millions of computers all over the world, very few users know about its support for plugins. We can install plugins in VLC player to add many more features. In fact, it already comes with VLSub plugin installed which can be used to search for the subtitles for movies and download them to your computer.
If you want to install more plugins in VLC media player, then here is how we can do it:
- Launch VLC Media Player and select Tools → Plugins & Extensions from the menu.
- In the Plugins and extensions window, select the Addons Manager tab and uncheck Only Installed.
- Go through the list of all the available plugins and select the plugin that you want to install. You can install the selected plugins simply by clicking on the Install button.
When you want to remove a previously installed plugin, you can follow the same exact steps except this time you have to select Only Installed in the step 2 above. After this, you can select any of the installed plugins and click on the Uninstall to remove them.
Once a plugin has been installed, it will become available for your use. It may or may not show up in the VLC player user interface. How a plugin behaves and what features it provides, depends entirely on that plugin. Through this method, we can install skins, playlist parsers, interfaces, and service discoveries too.
