Nightlight : Switch Between Dark & Light Modes on Windows 10

Windows 10 has included a dark mode for many years now. When this dark mode is turned on, Windows makes the various apps appear in dark colors. It can also make the Start menu and the taskbar dark. For toggling the dark mode on or off, we have to open Windows settings and from there we can choose the various settings related to it. But if you want a quicker way of toggling the dark mode on or off, then you can use a free tool called Nightlight. This small tool works only on Windows 10 and lets you switch between the dark mode and the light mode easily just through a click.

Nightlight tool requires that you have installed Microsoft .NET 5.0 on your system. If you have not installed it yet, then it will ask you to download and install it first. When downloading .NET 5.0 framework, you can choose 64-bit version or the 32-bit version depending on your system. After installation of .NET 5.0, we can continue with the installation using the batch script file named RUN_ME.bat provided with the Nightlight tool. The rest of the installation is very easy and you can just follow the on-screen instructions.

After the installation has completed, you will find the Nightlight icon in the notification area of Windows desktop. You can right-click on this icon to reveal its menu. From this menu, we can quickly choose the modes through Activate Light Mode or Activate Dark Mode. The dark mode is applied instantly and you will see that all the Windows apps have become dark. Similarly, you can revert to the light mode easily. In this menu, you will also find options whether to apply the dark mode to the Windows apps, Windows File Explorer and System windows only or to the Start menu & taskbar too.
