NVIDIA Canvas is an artificial intelligence (AI) based software that can be used to create photo-realistic pictures or landscapes easily by just drawing some basic strokes or doodles on the canvas. As we can guess easily, this software requires that we have an NVIDIA graphics processor – in fact, it needs a particular NVIDIA GPU. NVIDIA Canvas is accelerated with tensor cores on NVIDIA RTX GPUs – any one of the GeForce RTX, NVIDIA RTX, Quadro RTX, or TITAN RTX.
Canvas is based on the extensive artificial intelligence related work done by NVIDIA and trained with the use of 5 million photos. This new AI based technology works like a magical smart brush. This brush allows you to paint not with colors, but with landscape elements – sky, trees, rocks, clouds, rivers, snow and more. For each of these objects we can choose a different style.
Artificial intelligence converts these strokes into realistic elements and tries to make the image generated by it as natural as possible. For example, if we pick a cloud brush and draw two strokes in the canvas – it will draw two clouds in the sky. If we make a third stroke, a third cloud will be drawn that looks natural with the previous two clouds. You cannot draw anything other than the objects offered by the NVIDIA Canvas.
In the NVIDIA Canvas, we can export the drawn landscape in for of very popular image file formats – PNG or PSD format. These files can later be opened in other popular software like Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop. In fact, the NVIDIA Canvas webpage suggests that this software can be used by the artists to create environments for visualization, develop backgrounds for concept paintings, or use to it to create the beginning stages of a large project.
