Guild of Dungeoneering is the latest giveaway game available at the Epic Games store this week. It is a turn based dungeon crawling game that takes you to the flip side. In the regular games, you play the hero, the fighter, or the warrior battling the evil or taking over the obstacles. But in this game, you are going to build obstacles around for the hero. Your task is to make it impossible for the hero to carry forwards. You are going to build a powerful fortress around the hero in such a way that he cannot move ahead.
Guild of Dungeoneering works with cards. You have to draw cards and using those cards you are going to choose which type of obstacle you are going to place in he hero’s way. You can draw cards and lay traps in the hero’s path, make some big monsters wait for him, or create rooms that he has to open to proceed. As the game progresses, you get new levels of cards with more and more powerful monsters. You can even place some loot for the heroes so they can be lured into your rooms.
You have to maintain a balance when designing the dungeons. If you place too many monsters to defeat the hero then the game does not evolve into an interesting one. If you place no monsters at all, then it is very easy for the heroes to go through and claim victory. You have to create rooms with luring items with a small number of monsters and traps. As you play the game, you will find out the right balance to maintain in keeping the game interesting and making it harder for the heroes to explore your dungeons.
