WhatsApp has made it really very easy to share your WhatsApp with anyone using a QR code. Basically, you can create a QR code that has all the information needed for someone to add you to their WhatsApp contacts list. Once you have created this QR code, you can share it with others using any medium including email signatures, social networks, public events, newspaper advertisements, posters and more.
So here is how you can create your WhatsApp QR code:
- Launch WhatsApp on your smartphone. Tap on the menu and then select Settings from the menu.
- Tap on the QR code icon displayed next to your name.
- It will create a QR code and this QR code will be displayed on your screen. You can tap on the share icon near the top of the screen to share it with anyone through social networks or email it to your friends.
- If someone has shared their WhatsApp QR code with you, then you can repeat the same exact steps except that in the last step you have to switch over to the Scan Code section. This will use your mobile phone’s camera to scan the QR code. As soon as you finish scanning the QR code, their information is added to your WhatsApp contacts list.
While this method is definitely easier than sharing your mobile number with others, you have to be careful who you are sharing this information with. WhatsApp website warns that your QR code is private and should not be made public unnecessarily unless the WhatsApp belongs to an organization or company. Another thing that they mention is that if you share it your friends and they share it with someone else then all the people who get the QR code can scan it and add you to their WhatsApp contacts list.
