WHDownloader is a a third-party application for download updates directly from the Microsoft servers. It is short for Windows Hotfix Downdloader and is able to download updates for many versions of Windows and Office. It can fetch hotfixes for Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows 11, Office 2010, Office 2013 and Office 2016. It can download hotfixes for both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
It is a portable application and does not require any installation. After launching it, the first thing we have to do is click on the small download button near the top-left corner. This will download the download lists for all the supported Windows and Office versions.
The downloading of the the update lists will take only a few seconds. When the downloading is complete, we can select the product for which we want to download the updates from the drop-down list near the top-left corner. This will display all the available downloads for that product. The available downloads list shows the update, type, size, release date, category and the KB article.
We can select all the updates that we wish to download from the list for a product and then click on the Download button near the bottom-left corner. This will initiate the downloads one at a time. The downloaded files are kept in a sub-folder named Updates in the same place from where you are running WHDownloader.
Inside the sub-folder Update there are other sub-folders created in a nested manner so that you can quickly find which updates belong to which of the products. We can run the updates/hotfixes from these folders to update the respective products.
WHDownloader is useful in two situations – when you want to install the same updates on a number of computers in your workplace, and when you want to update a computer that has no active internet connection.
