How to Remove UWTSettings from Desktop Context-Menu

After installing Ultimate Windows Tweaker for Windows 10, if you remove this software then you might notice that it leaves a context-menu item UWTSettings on the Windows Desktop. This appears in the right-click menu when you right-click anywhere on the Windows desktop.

But since Ultimate Windows Tweaker has already been uninstalled from the system, this UWTSettings item in the right-click menu does nothing. If you select UWTSettings from the context-menu, then Windows Explorer shows an error of a missing command.

Remove UWTSettings

Here is a quick way to remove the context-menu item from Windows:

  1. Press Win+R, type regedit and press Enter. This will open Windows Registry Editor.
  2. Navigate to the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DesktopBackground\Shell\UWTSettings.
  3. Right-click on UWTSettings and then choose to Delete it.Remove UWTSettings
  4. You will now find that UWTSettings from the right-click menu on Windows Desktop has disappeared.

We can remove UWTSettings from Windows Registry using a number of other methods. For example, we can use a command prompt window in the following manner:

  1. Launch an elevated command prompt. For this, you can open Start menu, type cmd.exe, right-click on it and choose to Run it as administrator.
  2. In the command shell, type reg delete HKCR\DesktopBackground\Shell\UWTSettings and press Enter.
  3. When asked for the confirmation, type Yes and press Enter. This will delete the registry key responsible for displaying UWTSettings in the context-menu on the Windows Desktop.

As soon as we remove this key from the Windows Registry, the UWTSettings context-menu item will be gone. If you want to bring this item back to the Windows Desktop, then you can simple install Ultimate Windows Tweaker for Windows as mentioned before.
