Simcity 2000 is a strategy game from 1990s in which you start a city from scratch. You have to build everything in the city. The city gets dynamic weather, natural calamities, pandemic outbreaks, riots and more. You have to build the city and have good relations with its neighbors.
Simcity 2000 became extremely popular when it was released. Some of the gamers still wish to play this game as it is now freely available over some abandoned games websites. The main problem with it is that it was designed to be run from within MS-DOS. In those days Windows ran on top of DOS and therefore running DOS games was not a problem. But in the times of Windows 11, we have to follow a different workaround.
First of all you have to download DOSBox from https://www.dosbox.com/. We can install it on Windows 11 easily. After this, we can launch DOSBox and give the following commands:
Mount C C:\simcity C:\sc2000
This will launch Simcity 2000 provided you had copied Simcity 2000 files in C:\simcity folder. If it fails to launch then you have to change the graphics card configured for DOSBox. You will see the familiar logo and then it will ask you whether you want to start a new game or continue existing city.
As you begin a new game (city), you have to choose the name of your city or town. You can give it any name you want. You will be given some initial funds and now you are on your own. Lets see how you build the city into a modern prosperous and happy city where everyone wants to come and live. You can save the progress in DosBox as usual and continue later from where you left off.
Another way to run this game is through VMware Player which allows you to install Windows 95 virtually inside it. Once you have Windows 95 running as guest through VMwar Player, you can then run Simcity 2000 inside it. But this method is longer and requires many many extra steps.
