While you watch movies on the PC some of the movie scenes play too loud and others are not even audible. We have to manually adjust the volume level – setting it higher when music is inaudible and setting it lower when music or movies are playing too loud. This is when Sound Lock comes to rescue. Sound Lock is a freeware application for Windows that clips the volume level if it goes over the pre-selected volume level, so that music plays loud but not too loud on your system.

Bing has such amazing backgrounds that we all get tempted to download them and use them as Windows desktop backgrounds (wallpapers). The Microsoft Desktops tool adds virtual desktops to Windows XP, Vista and 7. It has a hardcoded four number of virtual desktops. You can switch between these virtual desktops using a hotkey. You can also switch through the virtual desktops using the notification area icon in Windows. The notification area also shows the preview of the virtual desktops so you can easily know which virtual desktop you want to switch to.

SmartPower is a Windows application that claims to save energy by hibernating and resuming your PC according to configurable rules. It is well suited for personal home computers as well as servers. SmartPower allows you to create rules to prevent hibernation, suspension or shutting down of your computer. If it sees no rules are currently in effect, then it initiates the hibernation process and this way saves energy.
