Although hibernation is a nice and useful feature in Windows 7, but it consumes considerable amount of space on your hard disk. If you do not use the hibernation feature in Windows 7, you can turn it off to save the disk space. Here is how you can turn off the hibernation in Windows 7:
Note : You need administrator level credentials for following these steps.
- Press the key combination Windows Logo Key + R, to open the Run dialog.
- Type regedit in the Run dialog and press Enter to open Windows Registry
- In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlPower
- You would find two DWORD values named HiberFileSizePercent and HibernateEnabled in the right side pane. Double click on them and set both of their values to 0 as shown :
Restart your computer for the settings to take effect. After restarting your computer, you can delete thr hiberfil.sys located in the root folder of your computer.
