The other day I was chatting with my friend Veronica and I wanted to show her some of my pictures that I took during the vacations. The original pictures were very high resolution and therefore I wanted to resize them. I was disappointed to find that Windows offers no straightforward utility to resize pictures. The only option is to use something like GIMP or Adobe Photoshop but that means consuming a lot of time to do something simple like resizing pictures. Luckily, Veronica herself suggested me a cool software called Shrink-O-Matic using which you can easily and quickly resize your pictures.
Shrink-O-Matic is an Adobe Air application which can help you resize all your pictures in few seconds. It supports all the major picture formats – JPEG, GIF and PNG. You can use it to resize a single picture or you can use it to batch resize a bunch of pictures. Because it is designed using the Adobe Air technology, you must install Adobe Air in Windows or Mac before you can run this application.
Using the Shrink-O-Matic is very easy and anybody can use it without problem. Just select the output size dimensions in pixels. You can also choose the ratio of input to output size if you do not want to select a size in pixels. Then select the naming scheme of the output files – you can choose Auto Rename (which is recommened), or you can choose to keep the same name as the original files. You also have to specify an output folder where resized pictures would be placed. If you do not specify an output folder, the resized pictures would be placed in the same folder where the original files reside. Last option is to select the picture format of the output files – JPEG, GIF or PNG.
Finally you have to select picture files to resize. Either You can drag and drop files onto the Shrink-O-Matic window or you can click on the Browse button to select the image files you want to resize. The resizing process would start as soon as you drop the files on the Shrink-O-Matic window. You can immediately see the resized pictures in the output folder.
Most people think about Adobe Photoshop or GIMP whenever someone mentions any tasks involving pictures. So if you are looking for a picture resizing solution for your Windows or Macintosh computer, stop thinking about Photoshop and give Shrink-O-Matic a try. It is free, fast and easy to use.
