Sometimes when you run certain programs or install a new software, you may want to turn off the internet temporarily. If you are using the native Windows firewall, then there is no option to block all the internet activity for some time. All you can do is either pull the ethernet internet cable, switch off your router or disable NIC card in Windows. But now InternetOff, a free tiny utility for Windows, makes it possible to quickly turn off the internet in Windows.
InternetOff is a simple, lightweight and easy to use application that runs in your system tray (notification area) and allows you to quickly go offline whenever you want to. You can download it from its developer Crystal Rich’s site. The download is a mere 1.5 megabytes in size. The downloaded file is a setup installer. After the installation, you would see an icon in the notification area of Windows taskbar. You can click on this icon to see option to turn off the internet and go offline.
Once you have turned off the internet by clicking on the Turn off the internet, the icon changes to a red cross over the internet globe icon indicating that you are offline. Now if you want to go online again, then all you have to is click on the notification area icon, click on the Turn on the internet icon and choose an interval for which you want to stay online. You can choose to stay online for 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes or for an hour. If you select Just turn on, it turns the internet on for infinite time.
So if you want to stay away from the distractions that come with the internet like facebook, twitter, youtube and many other time wasting things, then you can choose to quickly turn off the internet using the InternetOff tool. This tool is specially useful for those who do not know how to turn off the internet using other usual methods.
