It is a freeware tool that can be run in all versions of Windows but some of the features might not work in versions of Windows below Windows XP. The downloaded file is a setup installer. After the installation is over, the Auto Shutdown app runs automatically.
It has a very simple GUI with shutdown, reboot, log off etc. task options given on the left side and time options given on the right side. You have to select one task and then choose a time when that task should be run. You can select a repetitive time for the task to be run daily, a specific date & time or you can select the duration of time after which the task should be executed. After choosing the task and time options, you can click on the Start Task button to schedule the task. A confirmation message would be shown after which Auto Shutdown is going to sit in the system tray and wait for the selected time.
You can double-click on this system tray icon anytime to open the main Auto Shutdown window. Through the main window you can cancel a previously scheduled task by clicking on the Cancel Task button. This feature is useful if you have accidentally configured a task only to realize the mistake later on.
There is an option for reminding you five minutes before a task is executed. If you have selected this option, then Auto Shutdown would show a message informing you about the task that is going to be executed. If you do not want it to be executed after five minutes, then you can cancel it by clicking on the Cancel button.
Wise Auto Shutdown is a simple and useful tool for those who often forget to turn off the computer and then wonder why their electricity bill is so much. It allows you to shutdown, restart, power off, log off, sleep or hibernate your computer at a certain time everyday. It is very useful if you are downloading a large file and do not want to wait for the download to finish; you can just set the computer to power off at midnight and go to sleep.
