How to Auto-fill Online Forms in Firefox

If you have to fill up online forms multiple times, then you would possibly have to visit a chiropractor for the pain in your fingers. But if you are a Firefox user, then you are in luck – you can use the AutoFill Forms extension to automatically fill forms online at the click of a button. This extension is very useful when filling up several forms on university or school websites where you have to enter the same information over and over again.

You can install the AutoFill Forms extension from the Mozilla add-ons website. The installation of this add-on requires you to restart the web browser and it can be used immediately after the restart. After the restart, you will see a new icon that looks like a pencil in the toolbar. Now you can proceed to fill up a web form. When you have filled all the fields, right-click on any text field (do not right-click just anywhere on the webpage, but on a text field) and select Add complete form as profile as shown below:

This would open up the settings window for the newly added profile in the AutoFill Forms extension. Here can change the name of the profile (which is automatically selected to be the webpage domain name), you can alter the values for the web form, add new values manually, enable/disable a single value and more. Usually, you have to do nothing at this stage. Just click on the OK button to save the profile.

Once you have a web form profile ready, you can automatically fill the forms on that same page. Just visit the same webpage which you were filling up earlier, then right-click anywhere on the webpage, select a profile from the Autofill Forms sub-menu. For me, the profile name is www.paypal.com. This would fill up the web form instantly without you having to type things all over again.

If you are worried about the security of all your personal information stored in the extension, then you can select the encryption option so that all the information is stored in the encrypted format. To enable the encryption, open the AutoFill Forms settings, select the Advanced and then the Main tab. Then check the checkbox labeled Store form field rules encrypted and click on the OK button to save the settings.

You can create as many profiles as you want for the different web forms. You can use this extension on any sort of webpage like school or university application forms, job application forms, email creation forms and more. The information saved is kept away from the lurking eyes by encrypting it before storing it on your computer. It should be mentioned that even though the encryption is used to store the information, you should never store passwords, information related to credit/debit cards and banking information etc., for the security reasons.

You can download and install the Auto-fill Forms add-on from https://addons.mozilla.org/.
