TweakNow SecureDelete : Securely Delete Files & Folders

If you want to get rid of some private files for good, then you have to securely erase them. Securely erasing means that you have to employ special techniques and methods to overwrite the content of the files in such a way that no one should be able to recover the contents using either software or hardware methods of file recovery. The TweakNow SecureDelete is a freeware application that allows you to delete files and folders using the industry standard secure erasure algorithms like Gutmann and DoD. In addition it also allows you to tweak paging file settings for Windows so that it is erased every time you shutdown Windows.

You can download TweakNow SecureDelete from the TweakNow website. The download is a setup installer which configures it on your Windows system. It supports all versions of Windows starting from Windows XP to Windows 8.

In the SecureDelete interface you can add a file or folder by clicking on the respective icons. After you have added the items in the delete list, you can click on the Delete button to start their secure deletion.

If you want to set the secure erase method for the files and folders, then you can click on the Options button. In this window, you can choose one of the secure erase methods – Gutmann (35 pass), DoD 5220.22M (7 pass), DoD 5220.22M (3 pass) or use random characters. The number of passes specify how many times the file shall be over-written.

Other than this basic feature of securely erasing the files, it also allows you to securely erase the contents of the Recycle Bin. You can also set options to clean the paging file upon shutdown. However, it also warns that cleaning the paging file at shutdown will make your Windows a tad slower.
