Benchmark PC Components Using PerformanceTest

It so happened that one of my friends’ latest gaming rig was not performing to the mark but another similar PC worked much better for the same game (The Witcher 3 : Wild Hunt). So next obvious step was to find out why one of the PC was not performing as well as the other and which of the components was failing to reach its maximum potential. There are so many hardware benchmark tools for this purpose and some of them are specially designed for testing a PC for gaming, for example the PassMark Performance Test that can be used to benchmark your PC and to PC speed testing.

PassMark PerformanceTest is a fast and easy-to-use tool for testing individual computer components. Not only you can test various components, but this program can also generate detailed reports having all the relevant figures and graphs. You can save reports from multiple computers and then compare them together.

Using the PerformanceTest software you can benchmark almost all of the major components in your PC including the main processor (CPU), storage disk drives (HDD and SSD), graphics card (GPU), memory or RAM, network devices, and the capabilities of the motherboard.

After launching the PerformanceTest software, you have to pick one of the benchmark tests that you can run. There are many benchmark tests available, for example, CPU Mark, 2D Mark, 3d Mark, Memory Mark, Disk Mark. You can also run all of these tests by choosing the Passmark benchmark. It can auto-detect your hardware configuration, but you can manually change it to set a reference point from which to compare the performance of your PC.

For each of the tests, it checks for many different things to determine your PC’s performance. For CPU mark test, it checks mathematical calculations, data compression, data encryption and physics. For 2D graphics, it chesks for vectors, bitmaps, fonts, text, and GUI elements. For 3D graphics tests are done for DirectX 9 to DirectX 12 in 4K resolution, DirectCompute & OpenCL. The Disk mark tests include reading, writing & seeking within disk files. And the Memory mark tests are done to see the memory access speeds and latency.

Conclusion: PassMark PerformanceTest is a full and complete PC benchmark tool for all the Windows based computers. It can run benchmarks on the CPU, GPU, disks and the memory to find out their performance. It can also compare your system’s performance with that of others.
