I recently bought a new notebook computer from Amazon for casual everyday use, but it does not have any DVD drive. I thought a small screen notebook would be great to carry around and use anywhere I wanted – what I did not know that they will say goodbye to DVD writer in order to make the notebook small and light-weight. Actually this is pretty common these days for the laptops specially the ones that have a screen size smaller than 15.6 inches. And then the obvious problem that people face is how to install the Windows operating system as the Windows OS usually comes on DVD.
But thanks to a software called WindowsToUSB Lite, now you can easily create a bootable USB drive that can be used to install Windows on your new laptop that has no optical disk drive. It makes use of the ISO image files for the Windows OS that you can easily download from the Microsoft servers. Here is how:
- First of all you have to download the ISO image for the Windows operating system. You can download them using a free software called Windows ISO Downloader. This software allows you to download all the newer versions of Windows including Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.
- Attach a USB thumb drive to your PC. It should have at least 8 GB of storage space.
- Launch WindowsToUSB Lite, choose the ISO option, select the source path for the downloaded ISO image file, choose the target USB drive and click on the Start button.
This will erase all the contents of the USB thumb drive, format it and then copy all the files from the ISO image file. After the process is finished, the bootable USB drive can then be used to install Windows operating system on any supported computer or it can also be used to fix basic system startup problems.
