The first thing that people do after wedding ceremony is over is share the pictures that they snapped with close relatives and then the demand comes to share the wedding ceremony DVDs. People always want to keep a copy of the DVD video for themselves and it is very easy these days. But not everyone has spare blank DVDs these days because USB pen drives have become so popular.
If you want to quickly make a backup of the DVD video, then instead of copying files which might not work as desired, you can use the freeware DVD Shrink software. This software can analyze your video DVD and compress the video and audio streams before backing them up on your hard drive.
DVD Shrink does not work with encrypted commercial DVDs. It is only for the video DVDs that have been created for personal use. It is not designed to illegally break the DVD encryption.
As you select a video DVD in DVD Shrink, it will scan that DVD for video and audio streams. The scanning of the entire DVD will take only a few seconds. It works with both DVD 5 and DVD 9 formats. Once the scanning is over, you will be able to see the video and audio streams in a list.
You can choose one or more of the video and audio tracks for the processing. Then you can click on the Backup button in the toolbar to start the backup process. This will show a new window from where you can choose the backup folder, video quality, video & audio compression setting etc.
The whole backup process may take between 5 to 15 minutes depending on the compression settings. Typically a DVD5 format video disc containing 4.7 GB of data will be compressed to just 2.5 GB on your hard drive. Similarly, a DVD9 format video disc with 8.5 GB data will be compressed to just 4.6 GB of the data.
