dBpoweramp is small program that comes with all the tools needed for converting music files from one format to another. It offers a simple user interface and can also be used to rip the music tracks from an ordinary audio CD. It can work with a small number of files but also comes with a batch converter module that can be used for conversion of a large number of files.
After launching dBpoweramp, we can select one of the tools that we want to work with – music converter, CD ripper or batch converter. During the conversion of the music files, we have to use various codecs. These codecs can be seen and customized by clicking on the List/Options button.
Using the Music Converter application is pretty easy. We have to first choose the encoding such as FLAC. As soon as we select the encoding, it shows various options related to that encoding using which we can configure the codecs. After this we can select the files and proceed with the conversion.
The audio CD Ripper tool demands that we insert an audio CD before we can proceed. Once the audio CD is recognized, we can choose the tracks, select an output folder, pick an encoder (such as FLAC) and continue with the ripping process. It also comes with a CD player built inside.
The batch converter module is meant for large scale music file conversion. It has a file explorer like interface and we can select multiple folders containing the music files for conversion. In the next steps, we can choose the encoder and it will convert all the selected files one by one. If you have a multi-core processor, it can use different cores for simultaneous conversion of many music files.
dBpoweramp comes in 30-day trial version after which you have to purchase a license key. If you continue to use it after 30 days, the MP3 format will not be supported in the music converter module without purchasing the full license key.
