Make Clones of CDs with Carbon CD for Windows

Carbon CD is a freeware tool for making backups of your CDs. It can also be used to make clones of your CDs disks easily. One important thing we should note about Carbon CD is that it does not support DVD or Blu-ray discs. It works only with the CDs but supports all different types of CDs such as Re-writable CDs or mini-CDs.

It is a portable program and is only a 1.14 MB download. We can extract the files from the downloaded archive and use it right away. There is no need of installing any third-party drivers (such as ASPI) for it to work. We can also copy it to a portable USB drive for using it on any Windows PC.

The user interface of Carbon CD displays all the tools available in form of large buttons. From this interface, we can choose any of these tools and it will take use to the interface of the respective tool. Seven different tools are available from the Carbon CD interface – create an image from the CD, burn image to a blank CD, clone a CD, refresh CD information, mastering the CD image, read tracks from an audio CD, and analysis of the sub-channel.

For cloning CDs, it first creates a local image for the source CD and then burns that CD image to the destination blank CD media. This cloning can be done in two modes – single session mode and multi-session mode. It has features to keep reading the data from the source CDs even in case of errors and bad sectors.

Unlike a similar software ImgBurn, Carbon CD is not able to save the CD images in the popular ISO file format. Rather it uses the CUE and CDM files for saving the disc images on your computer. Similarly, it cannot be used to burn ISO images to a blank drive.
