How to Check WiFi Performance and Speed in Chrome Browser

A few years ago, Netflix came up with fast.com which can be used to test the internet speed test as well as the connection latency. This is because so many Netflix users were complaining that they are not able to watch programs on Netflix because of buffering. In order to ensure that it is not the internet connection that is causing the problem and not the Netflix server, we can now just visit fast.com site.

Now we can use “WiFi Performance, Outage, Speed Test” extension for Chrome to find out if we issues with the internet connection. After installing this extension on the Chrome web browser, we can click on its icon on the omnibar to pull down an option for testing which is started by clicking on the Start Test button.

It takes only a few seconds to complete all the tests. During the test, it checks for the upload speeds, download speeds, connection jitter and the network latency. Other then the download and upload speeds, all the other values should be as small as possible. A higher jitter usually means serious connection problems.

If you want to know if your connection is good for any online service such as Zoom, Youtube, Netflix, Google, or Discord then you can click on the “Apps” section. A green square next to a service means that your internet connection is good for it. A yellow or red square next to a service means that the connection is average or poor.
