How to Decide What Happens to Facebook Account After You Pass Away

In today’s world, there is scarcely anyone who would not have any social networking accounts. We all have Twitter, Facebook, Google, Instagram, Snapchat, Whatsapp and a dozen more accounts. We use them from a number of devices like desktop computer, laptop and smartphones from anywhere in the world. We spend so much time interacting with others over social media. But what happens to these accounts once we pass from this world into the next?

With the global pandemic still haunting us, we have to think about this question seriously. Who will take possession of all of our online accounts when we are no longer around on this planet.

As far as Facebook is concerned, we can quickly make changes to some of the settings and chose to either delete the account in the sad event of passing away, or hand over the control of the account to any of the friends on Facebook. Here is how:

  1. Login to Your Facebook account on any desktop web browser.
  2. Enter https://www.facebook.com/settings in the web browser to open the settings pace for your Facebook accounts. Alternatively, you can also click on your profile icon, pull down the menu and choose to open settings from there.
  3. Select the General section and then click on Edit next to Memorialization Settings.Facebook Memorialization
  4. On the next screen, you can choose one of your friends on Facebook as your legacy keeper. This person would be able to do only a limited number of things to your account. Alternatively, you can also request Facebook to remove your account to be deleted  after you pass away.Facebook Memorialization

Even though this is a very serious and sad topic, it has to be discussed and thought about by all of us. We never know what is going to happen next. If these challenging times have done something, they have made us realized how short this life is. We should live our lives safely and happily, but also make preparations for the next.
