When it comes to creating or managing large databases, we often think of very expensive or very resource hungry solutions. But we can have create, manage and edit very large databases using a very lightweight application called GS-Base. It is an easy-to-use, universal and portable Windows database management application.
Using GS-Base, we can create databases with up to 256 million records and 2047 fields in each table. We can store any number of tables in a single database file. In these tables, we can store text, numbers, dates, images, videos, files, and more.
GS-Base is compatible with many other popular database formats. It is able to both import and export databases in text, xml, html, dBase III-IV, Clipper, FoxPro 2.x and Excel 2003 XML formats. In addition, it also allows you to edit and selectively export these databases.
GS-Base can save the databases in a single ZIP file. These files are saved either with the ZIP or GSB file extensions. With the ZIP archive databases, we can explore the database even without the use of any database application. This makes it much more convenient to share our database with others. Other users can view and modify records, tables and embedded files/images even without using GS-Base.
GS-Base is very lightweight. It can import a 1GB database in just a few seconds. All this is done without any visible impact on the system resources. If an image is embedded inside the database, we can edit it instantly in just one click in external photo editors.
GS-Base is portable in nature. It can be installed on any portable storage device such as an external hard disk drive. We can use it then from the external storage without performing any registry modifications. This way we can carry out database with us on a simple USB pendrive.
