Foxit PDF Reader is one of the leading PDF viewer and editor software. There is no option or feature related to PDF files that is not found in the Foxit PDF Reader. In addition, it is also one of the most secure PDF viewer for Windows.
Like many applications these days, Foxit PDF Reader comes with automatic update function. Using this feature, it can automatically download the new versions of the software and update itself.
Here is how we can change the automatic update settings for Foxit PDF Reader:
- Launch Foxit PDF Reader and click on the File menu.
- From the menu that appears, select Preferences. This will open a new window.
- In the newly opened window, select Updater from the left side list.
- There are three options available for automatic updates – automatically install updates, automatically download updates (but lets the user choose when to install the updates), and do not automatically update. Choose the desired option and then click on the OK button to save the settings.
In the automatic update settings, the default option selected in a new installation is the second option which allows for automatically downloading of the updates but lets the user choose when to install these updates. This is very convenient for the computers used at workplaces as it does not force the user to install the updates at working hours.
The first option which downloads and installs the updates automatically without any user input is for the computers where a little interruption in work is acceptable. When the updates are being installed, you won’t be able to use PDF viewer. But this is usually a very short time interval and the Foxit PDF Reader is updated.
The third and final option completely disables the automatic updates. We do not recommend this option and it should be used only in temporary situations.
